A Jesus Dilemma: Eating with Tax Collectors and Sinners?

August 18, 2018

And as he reclined at table in his house, many tax collectors and sinners were reclining with Jesus and his disciples, for there were many who followed him. 16 And the scribes of the Pharisees, when they saw that he was eating with sinners and tax collectors, said to his disciples, “Why does he eat with tax collectors and sinners?” 17 And when Jesus heard it, he said to them, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. I came not to call the righteous, but sinners.” Mark 2: ESV

As a sage or disciple since my calling in 1967 this is one of the most interesting parts of the scriptures for me. Since God lead me to some very vicious and caustic places and to be among despicable, broken, empty people (sorry). I understand that it seems the righteous have already made some commitment to God. At least knowing the guidance of Proverbs or the beauty of Psalms. But one thing that is not mentioned is what Jesus felt or thought when the liars, cheats and thieves abused him or stole from him. Aside from the obvious.

And don’t forget that in his day there was no police to call…etc.

Then to tell us that we need to forgive even the cruelest of debauchery? Wow, especially now that money all but rules some peoples being and soul.

Please consider God, please consider Jesus as a guide for power, love, peace and wisdom! Read your bible, you will be amazed.

God Bless You All,
